The Boone Bungalow

I've done a terrible job at keeping this blog updated.  Three years ago, I posted "before" pictures of our new house.  Well, the time has come for us to sell it, and I still haven't posted the "after" pictures.  We're very proud of the work that we've done on our first home, and we're very sad to have to say goodbye.  But we decided that we needed a bigger house for future possibilities.  That home will also be a giant project.  And we love that.  Here are the pictures showing what we've done to our first house.

We painted the exterior green and added landscaping.  We also replaced all the windows and added new house numbers.

Old window into porch table:  This wasn't a house project, but it's something I love.  We used an old window to make a porch table.  Dave helped me mount a wooden board covered with patterned fabric to the bottom of the window, and he added the legs.  I found teh chairs at a yard sale and painted them white.

I'm definitely going to miss my dream front porch--something we won't have at our new house.

Living Room:  The walls, trim, fireplace, and front door we all painted the same pale yellow.  Just painting the walls and trim made a huge difference.  Dave refinished the hardwood floors.

Dave stripped the front door and then stained and polyurethaned it.

One of our favorites:  We tore out the paneled wall that almost completely covered the fireplace but discovered the ductwork that ran along the left side of the fireplace.  Something had to be done to cover this.  Dave came up with the idea to build the columns on each side and then add wall lanterns for two reasons:  to make the columns serve some kind of purpose and so that we could have lighting. (There is no overhead lighting in the living room; it was easier to add it to the walls.)  Dave also built the shelves on the right side of the fireplace.  I painted the brick to match the trim, and he made the wooden mantel.

Dining Room:  We tore out a corner closet to make office space in the dining room.  We didn't have room for an office space anywhere else in the house, and the dining room worked well.  The cabinets are used to hold our important office things and extra kitchen supplies.
Dining Room:  Paint made all the difference in this room.  I like how the back wall in the corner built-in shelving is painted the same as the walls in the room.

Kitchen: We completely gutted the kitchen and redid it. The countertops are Wilsonart Laminate Granite 4550. The cabinets are Kitchen Kompact in Mellowood maple with flat panel doors.

Bathroom:  We tore the floor out and put down real bamboo flooring.  Wallpaper had to be stripped off all the walls.
Bathroom:  We replaced the brass shower enclosure with this one.

Bathroom:  We decided to keep the vanity and sink.  I painted the vanity white and added new hardware, including the faucet.  Dave tore out a cabinet above the toilet.  We also added the vanity mirror and light.
The Green Room!  We painted and added the Ikea bookcases and futon.  My dad made the coffee table.  This is where I have my quiet times.  The green makes me think of my scenic drives through the West Virginia countryside in the summer.

Bedroom:  The upstairs floors were painted, and Dave had to sand them all down.  I think they're beautiful now!
We decided to try and sell our house on our own and that if we didn't after about a month, we would list it with a realtor.  We put the sign (which my dad made for us--it looked great!) in our yard on Saturday, and on Monday a couple came to look at it and wanted to make an offer.  We signed the contract the following Sunday!
